Mildenhall DJS Fen Tigers – proudly sponsored by Manchetts Rescue and Recovery – look to bounce back and climb again to the top of Speedway’s National Development League [NDL] when they make the long journey up to the Scottish Borders on Saturday night (10/6) to take on the Berwick Bullets.

The pursuit of a first bonus point of the season awarded to the team achieving aggregate success once both NDL fixtures between them are completed is again a challenge with the result at the back end of April when the Bullets visited West Row going to a last heat decider and ending 49-41 to the Fen Tigers.

Berwick had gone through the last two NDL seasons unbeaten at their distinctive Shielfield Park circuit but that veneer of invincibility at their home track has been chipped away at considerably already in 2023, losing not just to league newcomers Workington but then a second time last weekend, to Mildenhall’s mid-week conquerors, Oxford.

Their success in the Borders and the result against the Fen Tigers saw the Chargers overhaul the Suffolk side to reach the league summit but Jason Gardner’s Fen men go to Berwick with renewed confidence that a full set of match points up for grabs can be theirs.

The visitors are boosted by the return of Ben Trigger, in a rich vein of form after recording the highest Championship score of his career down in Plymouth on Tuesday following on from taking second place in the GB U21 semi final two weeks ago.

And trusting that, along with his team mates, Trigger can indeed shoot down the Bullets is inspirational skipper, Lee Complin.

The Yorkshireman has considerable experience over the years of riding the sizeable Berwick circuit and has recently been involved in a team victory there as he ‘Guested’ for the Comets, top scoring with paid 13, when Workington broke the Bullets’ long held winning record there last month. In a rallying call to his team mates Complin says,

“I’ve seen what needs to be done to win at Berwick this year and with an all-round team showing there is no reason why we can’t do it too. We had a lot of issues on Tuesday [vs. Oxford] which cost us, and we are putting that behind us and all is good to go on Saturday”.

The great news for Fen Tigers’ fans unable to make the 240 miles plus trip up north is that Berwick Speedway’s YouTube channel ‘Berwick TV’ are providing a live streaming service of the Bullets vs. DJS Fen Tigers match on Saturday evening.
