It is with deep regret that Kent Royals promotion have taken the decision to call off Sunday’s (23/4) planned National Development League clash with the Mildenhall Fen Tigers. There have been underlying problems after continuous heavy rainfall, some which surfaced during the season opener two weeks ago. Allied to this, there is also additional rain forecast to come later in the week.

As many people will be aware the Iwade circuit sits on marshland between the estuaries of the Swale and Medway rivers and the recent spells of heavy rain have meant the Water Table has risen and with no real warm spells areas aren't drying out as they should and the club are keen to avoid the problems surrounding parking which marred the Easter Sunday clash.

Speaking of the decision to postpone Sunday's fixture, promoter Si Kellow said. "After a winter with lower than average rainfall, March went into overdrive to rectify that situation. The wettest March for 40 years culminated in very high groundwater levels, and the continued heavy rain into April is adding to the problems. With a forecast turning to rain for the rest of the week, and because of such high water levels it has made repairing areas that were damaged in the opening match a significant challenge, Graham (Arnold) and I decided that the only way to avoid a season ending catastrophe was to postpone."

The National Development League fixture against Mildenhall has been rearranged for Sunday 20th August, and the next home action for Royals fans will be Sunday 14th May when Kent take on Berwick in the NDL.
