Mildenhall’s number one Jason Edwards was in action on Wednesday evening (31/8) at Birmingham Speedway, competing in the GB U21 Final. In his record-equalling fifth Final, Jason finished in seventh place – recovering from a difficult start to finish in fine fettle with two wins from his last two rides to end on a total of eight points.

The draw wasn’t kind to the Fen Tigers’ skipper, pitching him in his opening ride against the riders who were ultimately going to end up second and third on the rostrum, Leicester’s Dan Thompson and Glasgow’s Aussie-born Connor Bailey.

A third place in that heat four scrap put Edwards on the back foot and then he faced the maximum man on the night Leon Flint (Flint completing the double of GB U19 & U21 titles in the same season, the first rider ever to do so) in his second ride, leading the Wolverhampton man at one stage but ending at the rear.

But Jason made a splendid recovery with wins in heats 13 and 20 to finish on the up and missing out agonisingly by one point of making it into the Last Chance semi-final race off.
