It’s claws out as Fen Tigers meet Tiger Cubs at West Row this afternoon (Sunday 26th June) – the first home match in the champions’ defence of their National Development League [NDL] title. And it’s appropriate that the first challenge needing to be overcome on their home track for Mildenhall Speedway – proudly sponsored by Manchetts Rescue and Recovery – comes from the side who preceded them as NDL champions, the 2019 title winners, Leicester.

The sides have already met this term – last month when depleted by injuries, the Fen Tigers were left licking their wounds after suffering a 49 points to 40 defeat in the East Midlands.

That match marked the debut of Mildenhall’s latest signing, GB representative in the World Long Track GP series, James Shanes. James missed the following two away matches as he was in Poland last weekend for the first round of that World Championship but is back looking to make headlines on his much anticipated home debut.

Also been in Poland since the previous match with Leicester have been Alex Spooner and Mildenhall’s man of the moment, Jason Edwards – the pair both competing in the new Polish league for U23 riders. It’s been an eventful week for the pairing back home too with Alex reeling off a maximum to take the Danny Day’s undercard event at West Row last Sunday (a very welcome display of form on his home track) and fellow Essex Boy, Jason securing a much-deserved Rising Star berth in the top division with Premiership, King’s Lynn Stars.

The visitors have one change from the match at Beaumont Park last month – former FIM Gold Cup winner at Youth Long Track (the de facto Junior World Championship), Max Perry is fit again after suffering a very painful start to his senior racing career, a broken collar bone.  Making his competitive West Row debut, the 15-year-old Perry replaces Kai Ward for the Lion Cubs.

The action gets underway at Mildenhall Stadium at 3pm – with gates open at 1.30pm.
