Gloomy
Sunday for battered Fen TigersThe Mildenhall Fen Tigers proudly sponsored by Manchetts Rescue and Recovery finished todays meeting with an unprecedented four riders standing after Macauley Leek, Elliot Kelly and Charlie Brooks all were withdrawn in the opening five heats of the meeting.

The track was a little difficult in the opening races with Matt Marson and Sheldon Davies both falling in heat one. This was, however, nothing compared with what followed, first Macauley Leek crashed after winning heat two and suffered shoulder damage, then Elliot Kelly crashed alarmingly at the start of heat four after his fork bands snapped as he left the gate causing his bike to lift dramatically. Worse was to follow in heat five when Charlie Brooks looking to reclaim third place from Davies became hooked up with Davies bike and crashed heavily on bend three. Initial diagnosis of Brooks injury was ribs whilst Kelly will be checked over at hospital on his return home this evening.

The meeting itself became secondary after these injuries but to their credit the remaining Fen Tigers kept the score respectable but were unable to pull off a ‘miracle’ victory as Cradley ran out 51-38 victors. Danny Halsey led the way for the visitors with a fine thirteen points whilst Danny Ayres and Jason Edwards top scored for Mildenhall with 12 and 9 points respectively.

Speaking after the meeting Team Manager Malcolm Vasey said “In all my long career I have never known anything like todays events and we wish all the riders a full and fast recovery. I am proud of the team for sticking to an impossible task today and we hung onto Cradley’s tails for as long as possible.

We now have to travel to Belle Vue with a patched up side with Jason also unavailable. As things stand Connor Coles will guest for Jason, whilst we will run rider replacement for Charlie. We should have details of our reserve replacements in the morning. I would like, on behalf of the club management and myself to thank supporters from both clubs for their patience today during the unavoidable delays”
