The Mildenhall Fen Tigers proudly sponsored by Manchetts Rescue and Recovery produced a spirited performance in front of a good crowd this afternoon but failed to pull back the twenty two point deficit that would have seen them progress to the semi-finalTwo early 4-2 advantages had the Fen Tigers up and running and by the interval they had increased their lead to fourteen points with some hard and exciting racing from the home team. Jason Edwards produced a scintillating pass on Danyon Hume in heat four then Danny Ayres produced a similar pass on Hume two heats later. Hume again was on the receiving end as the once again highly impressive Charlie Brooks swept past him to win heat nine before Ayres and Matt Marson rolled back the years with some high class team riding to send Mildenhall into the interval with a live chance of victory.
Unfortunately, after the break as hard as the Fen Tigers tried, they could not increase their advantage and had to accept their cup hopes for 2019 were over even though they ran out convincing 52-38 winners on the day.
Speaking after the meeting Fen Tigers General Manager Phil Kirk said “We had a team meeting with riders and management prior to todays meeting to air some views about what we wanted from the team and I have to say we were very impressed with the response we received from the lads today. Each one of them can head home knowing that they contributed to a fine win and that they gave the supporters a performance worthy of the Mildenhall Fen Tigers name.
Everyone had at least a paid win and at the interval I really felt we were in with a good chance of going on to win the tie. Sadly for us it was not to be but the lads should take confidence from today into tomorrows fixture at Kent. We offer Leicester our congratulations and wish them well in the competition”
