Highly popular Fen Tigers racer Luke Ruddick has announced his retirement from Speedway following his recent absence due to injuries sustained from a high speed crash.

Ruddick began his career as a Fen Tiger back in 2015 and rode for Mildenhall for three seasons before leaving to ride for Coventry and Leicester in the National League returning to the Fen Tigers for the 2021 season. He also rode for Edinburgh and Plymouth in the Championship.

Speaking about his decision Ruddick said “I’ve enjoyed every minute of my years in speedway and leave with some great memories but my recent crash made me take a hard look at my future. I have recently started my own business which is going well and I felt now was the right time to move on to the next part of my life. I am still sore from my crash and have some slight issues with my shoulder that helped me make my decision.

I would like to thank the Mildenhall owners for their understanding and support and everyone at Mildenhall Speedway, especially the fans and sponsors, who have supported me during my time at Mildenhall. The club has always felt like home and I will be at Kent on Tuesday helping where I can and intend to remain part of the club in the future off the track.

I would also like to thank the management and supporters of my other clubs for their help and support over the years”

Mildenhall Co-owner Phil Kirk said “We will miss Luke, but we all fully support and respect his decision. Speedway is a dangerous, expensive and time consuming sport and we fully understand that now is the time Luke feels is right for him to move on in his life. We hope he will remain a regular feature around the club in the coming seasons.

We would like to thank him for his performances for the club this year, he has never given less than 100% and has been a very popular and positive member of the pits”.
